The Personal Productivity Equation
It’s not the hours you put in your work that counts, it’s the work you put in the hours.
– Sam Ewing
Newton’s First Law of Motion states that:
An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
Although this is not a post about Physics, we can apply the same rule to personal productivity. I’m sure you are familiar with the phrase, “If you want something done, give it to a busy man.”
Why do you think this is so? Applying Newton’s law, “an object (man) in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction.” Motion=Momentum. It implies movement, force, speed or velocity. This means that an extremely busy person doesn’t have to roused from the couch to get up and do something.
How many of you know how difficult it is to get out of bed in the morning even after you’ve slept a good 8 hours? It takes a lot of effort to open those eyelids (some don’t), swing those legs out of bed and prepare for the day especially if there’s no reason to get up. But a busy man who has his day planned gets up like clock work to start his day. He knows what he needs to do, how things needs to be done, and how much time he needs to finish the job. And if you give him a task to do outside of what’s on his plate, he would most likely find a slot to get the task done.
Each one of us is given 24 hours a day. No more, no less. We can slave away and spend hours doing a single task and still not get it done or we can be wise and get a million things done in a day and still have time to spare.
Simply put,
Personal Productivity = Choice
What we choose to do will determine our success. Whether it’s choosing between playing an online game like Final Fantasy, or doing something productive like taking an online paid survey, or just staying in bed the whole day, the output will always be consistent with the input.
As Albert Einstein put it, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.”
Are You Facing Death by Overwork?
Many people around the world find that they work too hard, and they realize that their job is going to one day kill them if they don’t do anything about it. Job burnout is something that is a real threat to most people around the world, even those who seem to have the best jobs.
Avoiding job burnout is something that you need to work at, and below is a list of things that you can do to avoid burning out on the job:
- Find someone to help you manage your job and the accompanying stress. A personal life coach can help you handle your various job issues, and can be the best person to help you deal with the challenges of life.
- Always give yourself enough time to do your tasks. Under promising and over delivering is the best way to be valued as an employee, and you will find that there is a lot less pressure on you if you can finish things before the deadline you have set.
- Find what helps you to relax, and do those things as often as possible. Even if it is just getting up for a coffee or a stretch outside the office every couple of hours, do it. Limit yourself to a specific amount of time doing these things, but be sure to do them every day.
- When it comes to time to play, play as hard as possible. Throw yourself into your hobbies and weekend activities with all the gusto in you. Place all of your focus and mental energy towards having fun, rather than thinking about work.
- Unplug when you come home. Both your computer and your phone are a connection to your work, so turn them off. Turn off your mind as well, and stop thinking about all the work you have to do.
- Earn some extra cash in a fun way. Do some fun surveys for cash, help a neighbor move their homes, or have a garage sale. Earning extra cash can give you some money to have fun with, or can even help to take the financial pressure off.
- Make sure to eat right every day. Having a diet that is full of junk food and fast food is the quickest way to build up your levels of stress, but eating right is the best way to have a healthy balance in your body.
These seven tips may be just what you need to help you unwind and reduce the pressures of your job that will eventually lead to job burnout.
A fun way to earn money is to do surveys for cash, and you can enjoy answering these surveys and sharing your opinion. Doing surveys for cash can be done from the office or from home, and you will find that they are a great way to unwind and enjoy yourself making some extra money.
